Okwu plans to sell 2 lakh 4G smartphones by 2017-end
Start-up mobile devices firm Okwu said it plans to sell 2 lakh 4G smartphones and set up assembly unit in India after gaining traction by the end of 2017.

"We understand it is going to be a hard task for us to gain traction. Hence, we have kept very conservative number to sell two hundred thousand units by the end of 2017," Okwu Managing Director and CEO Anshuman Atul said after the unveiling of the brand and mobile devices.

"We plan to focus on IoTs as well, which will differentiate us from others." The company unveiled its first dual SIM 4G VoLTE smartphone 'Pi' with 5-inch display, 8 megapixel rear and 2 MP front camera for Rs 5,999.

"Pre-booking will start on November 27 on the company's website and start shipping in the second week of December. We have tied up with 330 service centres and are providing free pick and drop facility within 50 km of the centre during the warranty period. We will sell both online and offline. At present we have 40 distributors for offline sale," Atul said.

The company also unveiled its first bluetooth-enabled IOT device 'U-Tag', priced at Rs 990, which can alert users if they move a certain distance without the device connected to it.

"U Tag will help track your device and belongings in case of theft or any situation where one has left tagged belongings. The phone will also keep uploading its location to the server which will track its location without overwriting the previous location," Okwu Chief Operating Officer Arjun Gupta said.

The devices have been designed by Okwu and are being made in China.
