NXP Semiconductors takes its India academic relations to the next level – from talent development to research promotion. Signs agreements with premier institutes for research on next-generation VLSI and connectivity technologies
NXP Semiconductors today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with IIT Delhi to fund research activities in India. Further NXP and IIT Bombay are working towards a formal agreement by which NXP becomes a member of the VLSI research consortium at IIT Bombay.Under the aegis of its existing academic relations program, NXP Semiconductors has committed a total spend of US$1.5 million on its academic program, over a period of five years, building a potential talent and research pool for the emerging semiconductor ecosystem in India.
The funding will be used to drive research programmes for industry specific enabling technologies and applications like mobile communications, connectivity and automotive electronics based on the Nexperia audio-video platforms. The institutes will undertake projects in the areas of next-generation VLSI technologies, system prototyping, connectivity and fourth generation mobile communications. NXP will also embark on setting up a digital media laboratory in a leading technical institute in approximately six months.
As part of its academic initiatives, NXP has run an intensive university relations program with premier educational institutes for over a decade. This includes sponsoring masters' students in VLSI and embedded systems areas for promoting higher education and nurturing high-end talent. NXP is also an active participant in the Indian Semiconductor Association- VLSI Society of India-VisvesvaryaTechnologicalUniversity relationship (ISA-VSI-VTU) to promote talent creation locally.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rene Penning de Vries, senior vice president and chief technology officer, NXP Semiconductors, remarked, "NXP Semiconductors has been at the forefront of bringing innovative products using cutting edge research, and technology as an enabler.
