The Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation has appointed Sartha Marketing Consultants, led by Ms Sheema Vohra, as their first overseas representative in India. This is the corporation’s first international representation and showcases India’s importance as a tourist market for Niagara USA. Sartha Marketing has its head office based in New Delhi.
Niagara is one of the premier tourist destinations in the US. The total number of visitors to Niagara USA was 8.4 million in 2007, out of which almost 22 percent or 1.8 million people, were International visitors- including almost 147,000 visitors from India.
In a recent report issued by the US Department of Commerce Office of Travel and Tourism Industries, over 567,000 Indians visited the US in 2007, an increase of 39% over 2006. Visitors from India to the US spent nearly US $ 3.6 billion last year, an increase of 40% over 2006. Indian now are the sixth highest spenders in the country.
The objective of Niagara USA’s India office will be to increase awareness of the diverse attractions offered by Niagara USA in the Indian market. The primary target is leisure business –followed by Meeting and Incentive groups. Sartha will work with airlines on joint promotions and coops; actively promote media trips and generate press coverage of the region. The India office will also conduct regular educational trips and product updates for the travel trade and work on consumer promotions to enhance awareness of Niagara USA. Additionally, they will represent the destination at relevant fairs and seminars.
