Now Reliance Communications to get into BPO biz
Reliance Communications seems to be betting big on its BPO business. It might get in private investors for its BPO arm. And it's looking to convert Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City into an IT SEZ. All that's a move to unlock more shareholder value.
At the company's third AGM, Reliance Communications chairman Anil Ambani had some very happy shareholders. That's because he gave them just what they wanted - more opportunity to invest in Reliance's telecom business. He said Reliance ADAG would look at its BPO business as its next cash cow.
Reliance's BPO arm, which employs 7,800 people, offers services in telecom utilities, financial services and entertainment verticals. The company might even get in private equity players into it.
Ambani also said the 132-acre Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City would soon be developed as a special economic zone for IT and ITES services. And the bonanza for shareholders would be the IPOs of Reliance's tower business RTIL and Flag Telecom, expected this year
Anil Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Communications said, "For Flag too we will first get some private equity players and then look at a global listing."
Sources say Reliance might offload 10 to 20% in Flag telecom and about 5% to private equity players in RTIL.
Reliance ADAG has set aside Rs 20,000 crore for network expansion this fiscal and hopes to add 20 million subscribers by the end of the year. It is also examining the possibility of making its own handsets that could help it to achieve lower costs and a larger market share.
Besides, R-Com plans to launch its direct-to-home and IPTV services this year. R-Com is focused on communications in a big way.
