Now, Power Ministry wants gas for NTPC at $2.34/unit too
Published on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 09:19  |  Updated at Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 10:23  |  Source : CNBC-TV18

CNBC-TV18 learns that the Power Ministry has requested the Oil Ministry for 12 mmscmd of gas for NTPC's Kawas and Gandhar plants at USD 2.34 per mmbtu.

Government intervention is seen as a necessity for gas allocation for NTPC.

According to sources, the Power Ministry told the Oil Ministry that the allocation would enable NTPC to start construction of plants.

The expansion of these two plants has been pending since 2005. The gas allocation to the plants will add 2600 megawatts of power by March 2012.
