Mr. R Dhamodaran, Vice President and Country Executive, Software Group & Developer Relations, IBM India said, "IBM is committed to enabling governments deliver innovative services to their stakeholders. This phase of the National Portal gives the government an opportunity to improve the quality of services, increase customer satisfaction, and meet the demands of an ever-changing landscape and citizen sophistication. This flexibility and scalability is possible through IBM's software and implementation of SOA, which will allow NIC and its stakeholders to collaborate and innovate in line with the dynamic needs of its customers."

Given India's rapidly growing population, the Government is focused on not only improving services for its citizens but also increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of its people to participate in the process of governance. With millions of hits per month and  a large number of  registered users today, NIC envisages that its enhanced platform and features will make this portal the chosen destination, for people in India and globally, to access information and services. To help them along the way, a team of content contributors, comprising of senior Government officers, technology and subject matter experts has been set up to provide diverse and up-to-date information.

The IBM solution uses products like IBM WebSphere Portal; IBM WebSphere Application Server; IBM Workplace Content Manager for web publishing and personalization; IBM DB2 Universal

Database for providing robust data storage; IBM WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind for intelligent search and navigation; and IBM Rational Application Developer for application development; all of which conform to the W3C and Unicode standards. IBM's WebSphere Portal allows companies to deploy self-service applications that increase the overall efficiency of the organization and the productivity of employees. It provides a flexible, open, and extensible framework to build successful business-to-employee (B2E), business-to-business (B2B), and business-to-consumer (B2C) portals which, combined with new business process integration and content management functionality, helps businesses respond in real-time to customer demands and market conditions.
