Half a billion dollars! That’s the cost of decongesting a part of Delhi's roads. CNBC-TV18’s Katya Naidu and Taapsi Ramchandani report that NHAI is proposing a new 6 lane expressway from Palwal in Haryana to Kundli in Uttar Pradesh. And lining up to get a pie of this huge project are eight companies including Reliance Energy, L&T and Jaypee Group.
Three years, 135 kilometers of an access controlled expressway and Rs 2400 crore. That's what it will take to decongest a part of the capital's roads. NHAI is proposing a new six lane expressway from Palwal in Haryana to Kundli in Uttar Pradesh. And lining up to get a pie of this huge project are eight companies including Reliance Energy , L&T and Jaypee Group . Most of these bidders have declined to comment, but sources say the bids are already in.
So what's prompted the NHAI to start this project?
The fact that Delhi is the meeting point of five national highways NH 1, 2, 8, 10 and 24, that many say, makes the city a victim of a lot of unwanted or non-destined traffic. The proposed expressway is expected to help the city tackle with a part of this problem and reduce the travel time between UP and Haryana by half. According to sources, the construction for the eastern peripheral expressway is likely to start by the end of the year.
