New Rediffmail now available in 11 Indian languages

Rediff.com India Limited (Nasdaq: REDF), one of the leading worldwide online provider of news, information, communication, entertainment and shopping services, today, announced the launch of the 'new lightning fast Rediffmail', its all new web based email service, packed with powerful features, available in 11 Indian languages. To ensure that new Rediffmail remains 'lightning fast', it is packed with desk-top email like features such as instant preview of mails and attachments, drag & drop facility for mails to any folder, search for emails or attachments and auto-completion of email IDs by simply typing a few characters. The new Rediffmail allows users to execute many email tasks on the first page itself - such as create folders to organise mails, manage contacts through enhanced address book feature and manage profiles that interfaces directly with Rediff BOL (Instant Messenger). 

Rediff.com also announced that to it is introducing 'Smart Mail Service' for Rediffmail users, which will enable them to send and receive email alerts on their mobile phones, to capitalize on the rapidly growing mobile subscriber base in India.

He added "Growth in the number of PC owners and Internet subscribers is not just limited to the metros and A-class cities, but is also being witnessed in smaller B & C class cities & towns across India. To Internet users in these smaller cities, the use of their mother tongue in a communication service like email is important." 

The new Rediffmail leverages AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) technology and Rediff's superior understanding of the needs of both basic and evolved Internet users that is translated into desk-top and web mail features within the re-engineered Rediffmail. According to figures released by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), 98% of the 38.5 million Indian Internet users access emails and there has been a whopping 54% growth in the user base to 25 million in 2005-06.
