NASSCOM the premier trade body and the "voice" of the Indian IT industry, today announced a unique capacity building partnership program with CBI (Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries), Netherlands- for CBI's Export Development Program. This program is currently available exclusively for NASSCOM member companies specifically in the small and medium segment (Emerging Companies) that are looking to work with European countries.

Currently, NASSCOM and CBI are inviting applications for consultants, for a 'train the trainer program' which is being planned as a precursor to the Export Development Program. Once the applicants meet the perquisite requirements, they will undergo an intensive training module which will certify them as CBI NASSCOM trainers, and they can in turn consult with Indian SME companies to help them become EU export ready.

NASSCOM is working as a "Partner Business Support Organizations" to CBI, and helping to implement innovative export development services. Currently, both organisations are in the process of designing a framework for the export development program which will focus on the enhancements of exports to the EU by SME's in the services industry.

This specific initiative is the next step to the MoU signed in 2006, with an aim that the two organisations would work as knowledge centres to fulfill the EU business outsourcing demands.

Speaking about this initiative, Kiran Karnik, President, NASSCOM said "NASSCOM has been actively working towards furthering trade opportunities for member companies globally. This program focuses on one (emerging companies) segment, and on the European Union, a market of great potential opportunity for Indian companies. Working with a partner like CBI ensures that we remain in the know of nuances and formalities that otherwise may not be very visible, and in fact may cause us to miss the opportunity. Going forward, we are looking at developing similar programs keeping the approach focussed on specific segments and opportunities, and are quite hopeful of the direct business benefit it will bring to our member companies"
