NASSCOM advocates zero tolerance policy towards BPO frauds
This HSBC incident has opened a Pandora's box on the Indian BPOs' ability to contain fraud. And finally, NASSCOM acknowledges the threat. In an exclusive interview to CNBC-TV18, the trade body says it will now adopt a zero tolerance policy towards such frauds.
A couple of rogue employees and two sensational multi-million dollar frauds. In just six months!! In an industry of one million employees that is still hiring thousands every month, the problem of curbing fake CVs just refuses to go away.
According to Sunil Mehta, VP of NASSCOM, "Many good practices are not being followed because of recruitment pressure."
NASSCOM, the trade body for IT software and services in India, has been pushing the National Skills Registry as a one point solution. NSR is a database of all BPO employees that captures an individual's track record along with a background check. But till this national database takes off NASSCOM is urging its members to deal with an iron hand.
"The industry is trying to adopt a zero tolerance policy towards fake CVs," says Mehta.
As of now, a mere 20 out of the 1000 NASSCOM member-companies have signed on. Only 20,000 employees have been registered. NASSCOM insists the project will take time. Till then a vulnerable USD 6-billion industry is keeping its fingers crossed.
