Nasscom’s suggestions for IIITs
In response to the Prime Minister’s announcement that 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) would be set up as part of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, Nasscom, the country’s apex body of software companies, has presented a detailed project report to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
In response to the Prime Minister's announcement that 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) would be set up as part of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, Nasscom, the country's apex body of software companies, has presented a detailed project report to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
Nasscom has proposed that each of the IIITs be set up as a fully autonomous institution, through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The partners in setting up the IIITs would be the MHRD, Governments of the respective States where each IIIT is to be established, and industry members.
Considering the importance of location in making these institutions centres of excellence, Nasscom has recommended 20 locations. The association has suggested sustainable linkages with industry and an environment conducive for research excellence so that the IIITs become cutting-edge institutions.
