MUMBAI: Reliance Infocomm today clarified that the top officials booked by the CBI in the alleged auto-routing of international calls as local calls were not part of the Reliance ADA Group headed by Anil Ambani, but belonged to the Reliance Industries Limited headed by Mukesh Ambani.
The CBI registered a case against four senior officials of Reliance Infocomm, before the split between Ambani brothers, and some unknown officials of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam .
The Reliance Infocomm officials are alleged to have entered into a criminal conspiracy with certain officials of the BSNL and "masking" international calls as local ones through a specially designed software.
The CBI named Manoj Modi, the then director of Reliance Infocomm, Akhil Gupta, the then CEO, A Shankar, the then head of the company's corporate affairs, Pankaj Panwar, the then head regulator of the company, and other unnamed officials of Reliance and BSNL in the case.
"The reported criminal case registered by the CBI pertains to the alleged rerouting of international calls prior to the reorganisation of the Reliance group, at which point of time Reliance Infocomm was under the previous management," a Reliance Communications spokesperson said.
"The officials accused by the CBI are from the Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) group, and have nothing to do with the Reliance ADA group. Manoj Modi currently heads the retail business of RIL and Shankar Adwal looks after Government Relations for RIL in Delhi," the spokesperson added.
The CBI had registered a case against four senior officials of Reliance Infocomm after a year's probe into auto-routing of international calls. Apart from Reliance Infocomm officials, a few BSNL officials were also included as accused in the case, reports said.
