Mumbai airport: Slum rehab issue to be resolved soon
The Civil Aviation Minister, Mr Praful Patel, has told newspersons that "there have been some slippages in time", in the modernisation work of the Mumbai Airport, which are mainly due to excessive air traffic and slum rehabilitation issue.
Speaking at a press conference organised by the Assocham to release a study called, `Indian Civil Aviation Industry- Road Map for Growth', Mr Patel said, 'Time has come for enhancing engineering capabilities within India so that none of the carriers need to go elsewhere to get their work done.'
He pointed out that since Air India has in-house engineering facilities, which are open for outsourcing third-party work, 'they should make money and that is why a separate business unit has been planned post merger. We would also like to encourage more engineering setup and MRO (maintenance and repair organisations) to come up in India'.
The industrial body along with Ernst & Young released the report highlighting the current scenario in the Indian aviation industry, the future of the industry as well as the impediments to its growth.
