Moser Baer plans to launch DVD player for Rs 1,500
After shaking the home entertainment market with a revolutionary pricing strategy, Rs 28 for VCD and Rs 38 for DVD, Moser Baer Entertainment is now set to make some drastic moves in the consumer electronics segment, albeit in just one segment of this market.
Mumbai, Oct 10: After shaking the home entertainment market with a revolutionary pricing strategy, Rs 28 for VCD and Rs 38 for DVD, Moser Baer Entertainment is now set to make some drastic moves in the consumer electronics segment, albeit in just one segment of this market.
The company is currently in talks with all electronic majors including Philips , LG, Samsung and Mirc to jointly collaborate and launch a low-end VCD and DVD player, priced around Rs 1,000 and Rs 1500 respectively. The current price for a VCD and DVD player ranges between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000.
Moser Baer rationale is simple. Much like the its pricing of VCD and DVDs, its foray into players is aimed at expanding the market for home entertainment gizmos, one thing feeding on another. Research data shows that India has over 26-million DVD/VCD users, which is growing at over 25%, comprising about a fourth of all TV ownership in the country.
