MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation , Delhi a non-profit relief and charitable organisation formally launched its campaign "Ek Mutthi Anaaj" today in the Constitution Club on the occasion of International Human Rights Day. On this day the Foundation also honoured Mr. Madhu Koda, Honourable Chief Minister, Jharkhand for his exemplary work towards eradicating hunger in the state. Noted actor and social activist Ms. Shabana Azmi was chief guest on the occasion. The function started with lamp-lighting ceremony by the guests. There was a presentation about the flagship projects "Ek Mutthi Anaaj" and "Zero Hunger Act" of the Foundation. Mr. Madhu Koda and Ms. Shabana Azmi formally launched the Ek Mutthi Anaaj scheme by pouring a handful of grain in the bucket. The "Ek Mutthi Anaaj" campaign is running successfully across Delhi and it is gaining tremendous response from the Delhi households. The Foundation also is spearheading a national campaign for zero hunger legislation in India to ensure livelihood and Food Security for the underprivileged. While addressing the audience Shabana Azmi expressed "I am deeply honoured to be a part of this function and thank MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation for initiating the campaign "Ek Mutthi Anaaj". A handful of grain, which many of us today comfortably ignore, could create a lot of difference in the lives of millions encompassed by poverty and deprivation. Though this campaign has started in Delhi, I request everyone from our country to become part of this noble and unique campaign." Shri Madhu Koda, Chief Minister, Jharkhand was very optimistic about the campaign "Ek Mutthi Anaaj" and praised the trustees and the people associated with the Foundation. He said "The government is trying to eliminate poverty from India through various programs running in the country and many more are in the pipeline. The roles of non-governmental organizations are pivotal in making the people aware about the initiatives of the government. They should come forward with campaigns and projects like "Ek Mutthi Anaaj" which could breathe in new vigour to the government initiatives combating hunger and poverty." The Managing Trustee MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation, Delhi Ms. Shakun Goyal was ecstatic by the initial response garnered by the campaign and said in her speech "We started Ek Mutthi Anaaj on 29 July this year and the response we are getting is tremendous. More and more households are coming forward to participate in the campaign. The smiles in the faces of people benefited by feeding programs of MCKS Food for Hungry Foundation made us think about associating households in our feeding programs. Thus came the idea of "Ek Mutthi Anaaj" and today is the formal launch event. We have to go a long way and the success of the campaign lies on the shoulders of all of us" Later in the programme, Mr. Madhu Koda was honoured for his ongoing work towards eradicating hunger in Jharkhand and Ms. Shabana Azmi handed over the memento to him in the function. Mr. Koda also pledged to make Jharkhand hunger-free on the occasion. While honouring Shri Madhu Koda, Ms. Shabana Azmi said, "It is great to see a young and dynamic chief minister who is doing so much for the downtrodden. Under his able leadership Jharkhand state has ranked third in implementation of NREGA. I am sure he will continue the good work and make Jharkhand hunger free." The launch event concluded with everyone lighting the candles and pledging to make India a hunger-free nation.
