Maruti Suzuki on Wednesday unveiled a new compact avatar of the entry level sedan Swift Dzire.
The India's largest passenger car maker along with its vendors invested Rs 230 crore on the new Swift Dzire, which while optimizing the length, is wider, taller and has a larger wheel base, it said.
The compact Dzire shares the Swift platform. Maruti Suzuki had invested Rs 550 crore on the new Swift hatchback, which was launched in 2011.
Maruti Suzuki said it has introduced over 150 changes in the Swift Dzire, which includes new engine, plusher and "upmarket" interiors and an automatic transmission variant.
"Swift Dzire is a category leader with over 39% market share in the entry sedan segment. Clocking monthly sales of around 10,000 units, the company expects the new Swift Dzire with the full model change to strengthen the entry sedan portfolio and sell much larger numbers," it said.
The petrol version of the new Swift Dzire has a fuel efficiency of 19.1 kilometer per litre and is priced in Rs 4.79-6.19 lakh range, ex-showroom Delhi, Maruti said. The diesel variant has a fuel efficiency of 23.4 kmpl and is priced in Rs 5.80-7.09 lakh range.
Earlier on Wednesday, Maruti Suzuki said its total vehicle sales in January rose 5.2% year-on-year to 115,433 units, helped by strong sales of its Swift hatchback and surge in exports.
Maruti Suzuki shares were trading up 2.8% at Rs 1,220 on NSE in afternoon trade.
