Any product is always targeted at three segments - hedgers, speculators and arbitragers. In the over the counter (OTC) interbank market, only some one with an existing foreign exchange exposure can participate. Those would primarily be your hedgers but with the introduction of Exchange-Traded Futures and Options, every single resident Indian can participate.
It even gets speculators and arbitragers into the currency market, thereby, opening up an entire asset class for many brokerages.
