Mahindra United receives international recognition
India's leading football club Mahindra United is the only Indian club to be named in the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, Germany, global rankings. Mahindra United has been ranked 207th in world and also holds the position as the 12th best club in Asia.
IFFHS June 2006 world club ranking shows Mahindra United placed 207th with 2 top Asian clubs -- Selangor Bukit Jalil of Malaysia and Al-Ittihad Aleppo of Syria. Liverpool of England is No. 1.
Congratulating the team, Mr. Anand Mahindra, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, M&M Ltd., said: “This is a global milestone for Mahindras and for Indian football. The team has achieved an international benchmark for other clubs to follow and all credit to the ‘Dreaded Men in Red’ and the team management for it. I am glad that they are leading the way for Indians to become world beaters!”
The rankings are a double whammy for the “Dreaded Men in Red”, as Mahindra United is called, coming as it does on the heels of the club’s maiden NFL win in May, 2006. The win was hailed by the sporting community as a moment of glory for Mumbai football and Mahindra United celebrated it with a glittering victory parade on Saturday, May 27th 2006.
