Mahindra Solar One, a joint venture between Kiran Energy and Mahindra, today commissioned its first 5MW solar power plant in Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
The joint venture company is a part of the solar business vertical of Mahindra Cleantech - Mahindra Solar. Mahindra Solar offers a range of solutions spanning on- grid solutions, EPC (engineering, procurement and construction), and off-grid solutions.
The 5MW plant, set up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNURM), was constructed by the EPC arm of Mahindra Solar - Mahindra EPC (MEPC) within 100 days.
"We aim to be one of the top three companies in this industry. The Mahindra Group has been at the forefront of businesses that are in step with the nation's needs and Mahindra Solar One will provide a fillip to our nation's solar competencies," Mahindra & Mahindra Vice Chairman and Managing Director Anand Mahindra told reporters here.
The plant is expected to light around 60,000 rural homes and avoid emissions of nearly 8,000 tonne of carbon dioxide per year.
Apart from the 5MW project, Mahindra Solar One has also won 50MW worth of projects, though in partnership with Kiran Energy under the JNNSM phase 1B.
While 30 MW worth projects were won under Mahindra's name, the remaining 20 MW was won by its joint venture partner Kiran Energy, separately.
"We plan to play a larger role in solar power generation both as an EPC contractor in on-grid and off-grid and as a developer by setting up greater than 100 MW in the next 2 to 3 years," Mahindra added.
