MAHE launches Allied Health Sciences program
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has announced the expansion of Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences to its Knowledge village campus in Dubai. With this expansion, Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences has stepped out of India to foreign shores for the first time and is embarking on the exciting career options in the health care profession.
Allied Health Science is a new concept in health care and constitutes a separate stream of health professionals contributing to the healthcare. Allied health professionals are an integral part of the medical team along with doctors and nurses contributing their expertise to the preventive, curative and rehabilitative care of the patients.
Globally, allied health professionals comprise over 60% of the healthcare workforce. The role of the allied health professional is increasing rapidly and the enormous demand coupled with shortage of qualified allied health professionals make it challenging with excellent career prospects" says Dr B Rajashekhar, Deanand Prof., Manipal College of Allied health Sciences.
The Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences at the MAHE Dubai campus proposes to be an internationally recognized leader in allied health education, research and service, while providing a comprehensive array of high-quality health care professionals. In the Phase I of the programs at the campus, it will offer graduate program in Physical therapy (BPT) and Occupational therapy (BOT), Speech and Hearing (BASLP) with plans to offer more specialties and Master's programs in the coming years. The programs will be for the duration of four and half years for BPT & BOT, four years for BASLP and will commence from Sep 2006.
The graduates from Manipal College of Allied Health sciences will have great career opportunities and choices to be placed in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, community clinics, schools, industries, faculty positions, research and private practice. This will be a golden opportunity to the students of Middle East and Indian expatriate children.
