ASK Group , one of India's leading financial services group, through Life Mumbai Chapter in association with Habitat for Humanity , will enrich the lives of over 100 tribal families in Karjat, Maharashtra.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Asit Koticha, Chairman, ASK Group said, "It is important to give back to the society and this is our humble effort to provide 100 needy families, in 30 villages in and around Karjat, decent houses to live in. Life Mumbai brought this project of Habitat For Humanity and I am very happy to be associated with it. LIFE in Gujarat has worked with the philosophy of empowering the underprivileged rather then plain charity and as Habitat for Humanity is working on the same ground I was encouraged to join them."

The ASK Group along with its employees is on a two-day "build" camp at Karjat. In the two days the employees will be contributing their sweat and labour to help build seven houses in village Dhareychiwadi, Mr. Koticha said, "I am pleased that ASK people have taken part in actually constructing the houses. As we know that shelter (dire necessities being-roti kapada aur makan) is one of the most important element for mankind specially for women and children, it is essential that Indian should have a "pakka" roof over his head."

Habitat for Humanity along with Life Mumbai will build homes in 30 villages of Karjat and Raigad district of Maharashtra. The objectives of the program are:

  • Assist 100 tribal families in Karjat and Murbad Talukas of Maharashtra (phase I) to live in safe and decent homes.
  • Promote appropriate local construction technology and housing solutions through training and capacity building.
  • Seek active participation of homeowners in the building process of their homes by contributions through "Sweat Equity" and own contributions.
  • Involve corporates and the fortunate in helping the needy by direct participation.
  • Creating a community revolving fund through the establishment of a repayment mechanism.
