LG Electronics , the leading consumer durable player in the country, takes on the mantle of sponsorship for the Indian Golf Union's National Amateur Tour for the next three years. The LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour will touch 11 cities incorporating 13 events, making it a nation-wide tour. The opening event of the 13-leg LG Indian Amateur Tour tees off with the Eagleton Amateur at Eagleton Golf Resort in Bangalore from Tuesday.The LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour will showcase the best amateur talent available in the country including the likes of 2006 Asian Games silver medalists Anirban Lahiri, Joseph Chakola, budding stars like British Open 2006 (Junior) winner Amanjyot Singh and India Junior No.1 Rahul Bakshi amongst others. Speaking at the launch, Mr. Sandeep Tiwari, Head - Marketing, LGEIL said "We are pleased to be associated with the niche game of golf as we stand here for technologically superior products which blends perfectly with the game .Also the wonderful results shown by the Indian players in India and at the international level have encouraged us to build a strong future for all the amateur golf aspirants". Speaking on the occasion, Satish Aparajit, Secretary General of the Indian Golf Union said "We are pleased to welcome LG on board. I am sure with the support of the corporate sponsors like LG, Indian amateur golf is headed in the right direction." The Tour will culminate with the LG 107th All India Amateur Open which will see the participation of international teams in Delhi. The National team for all the international competitions will be selected on the basis of the performances in the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour. The Tour also acts as a honing ground for the champions of the future with some of the top amateurs turning professional after having tested the waters successfully in the amateur circuit. On the top of the Order of Merit for the 2006-07 season has been Anirban Lahiri followed by Jasjeet Singh at No.2. Joseph Chakola was third while Simarjeet Singh and Gagan Verma were fourth and fifth respectively. The LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour will see an elite band of partners. Leading event management company Tiger Sports Marketing will be managing the Tour while Times of India have come on board as the Associate Sponsors. CNN which is the Official News Channel is also the Hole-in-one Sponsor. CNN will be giving away a brand new Taylormade Golf Set to the first golfer to ace the designated par-3 hole at every event. Ten Sports is the 'Official Sports Channel' while Pepsi and Gatorade are the official beverage partners. International apparel company Kappa will be the Official Styling Partner.
