The specialty chemicals company LANXESS AG is coloring the Olympic stadiums in Beijing with its iron oxide pigment products named Bayferrox. As one of the world's leading suppliers for the coloration of concrete, LANXESS provided the pigment solutions, which were widely used in Olympic construction.

The Olympic stadiums require high-quality pigments in precise measurements and even dispersion. In addition, environmental protection is afforded top priority during the concreting process. A great amount of LANXESS Bayferrox was used in the coloration of concrete and paving blocks at the Olympic Tennis Centre, the Archer Centre, the Hockey Stadium and National Gymnasium. These lightfast products, noted for their outstanding weather and chemical resistance, are materials of choice in coloring concrete and recognized by builders and architects for their ease of use, outstanding quality and absolute environmental compatibility.

For decades, Bayferrox iron oxide pigments have been widely used in coloring a broad variety of construction products, including concrete, roofing tiles and coatings. As one of the most important umbrella brand in the world market, LANXESS Bayferrox brings lasting value to customers around the world who cherish quality, cost-efficiency, and environmental friendliness. Dr. Rolf W. Haselhorst, head of Asia-Pacific Business for the Inorganic Pigments business unit commented: "The increasing brand awareness of Bayferrox and its reputation for quality are keys to its popularity. With nearly a century of expertise in the production and application of iron oxide pigments, the Bayferrox product line has enjoyed consistent success in the construction, paint, plastics and paper industries. Now, growing numbers of customers from the construction industry in China have come to recognize the advantages of Bayferrox pigments, helping them achieve enduring and attractive designs with brilliantly colored construction materials. We are confident that the Bayferrox brand will grow even stronger and continuously brings lasting values to those customers who cherish this outstanding brand in China."

As the largest manufacturer of iron oxide pigment, the LANXESS Inorganic Pigments business unit achieves approximately 50 per cent of its sales within the construction industry. With the boom of the construction industry in China in the last five years, the business unit has registered an average annual sales growth of 15 percent in China, and it expects sales of pigments in the Asia Pacific market to increase 30 percent by 2010. To meet the growing demand from the construction industry in China and across the Asia Pacific region, the business unit is expanding its production capacity in the LANXESS Shanghai Pigments plant. "The recent expansion, combined with the established Bayferrox brand, has laid a solid foundation for our future success throughout the Asia-Pacific region, especially in China," added Haselhorst.
