Specialty chemicals company LANXESS AG is to increase its prices for biocidal active ingredients and formulations for industrial preservation by up to eight percent with immediate effect. This is a result of the dramatic increases in the cost of raw materials, auxiliaries and supplies over the past few months, according to Peter Weinmar, head of the Material Protection Products business unit.

The prices for products based on phenolic active ingredients such as Preventol CMK, Preventol BP and Preventol OPP and for Preventol B2 are increasing by five percent. Quotations for bronopol and bronopol-based formulations are to rise by up to eight percent. Fungicides for wood stains and coatings were already subject to a price increase of six percent at the beginning of the year.

The Material Protection Products business unit, one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of biocidal active ingredients and formulations for use in wood preservatives, disinfectants and industrial preservation, belongs to the Performance Chemicals segment, which achieved total sales in 2007 of EUR 1,970 million.
