French cement maker, LaFarge SA says India is an important country for the company. "It has great growth potential. Our continuous investment in operations in India has borne fruit," says Bruno Lafont, Chairman and Global CEO, Lafarge.

The company, which has completed a decade of operations in the Indian market, says it will expand to other regions gradually. "We will first expand via greenfield projects." It is now looking at building cement plants in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Meghalaya.

Acquisitions are not a priority for the French cement major, but are not completely ruled out either. The company says it is on the lookout for suitable acquisition opportunities.

LaFarge says the acquisition of L&T's concrete biz has given it a footing in the ready mix concrete market.

Going forward, the company's focus is on not wasting capital and bringing operations to maximum efficiency. "Our strategy is to give priority to cement sector in emerging markets."
