Kingfisher to fly international?Published on Thu, Dec 20, 2007 at 20:35 | Source : CNBC-TV18 Updated at Thu, Dec 20, 2007 at 22:11
Once the merger between Deccan Aviation and Kingfisher is completed, Kingfisher will fly international. And its first flight will connect IT city Bangalore to the original Silicon Valley, reports CNBC-TV18's Roshni Menon.
"With the Airbus 340-500, it is the only machine that can do this mission. It helps us connect South India to both coasts. And being able to fly West Coast to the US non-stop is a big plus. Today, by the fastest route, it takes 26 hours and two stopovers," said Ravi Nedungadi , CFO and President-Finance, UB Group . Kingfisher hopes to do it in 17.5 hours. An independent study by the San Francisco Airport also found that there is a 200 % load factor on the South India-San Francisco route. This has prompted Kingfisher to start preparations for a daily service to the West Coast and to New York. It has already placed orders for 5 wide-body ultra long haul aircraft, which will be delivered by the middle of next year. On ground preparations are in full swing. "Preparing for the ultra long hauls really requires a lot of planning. It is a completely different aircraft. The crew needs to be differently trained and certified, etc. That process has started as it rightly should," said Nedungadi. That planning is already underway. Kingfisher will service the US, Europe and Singapore through its premium offering, while its low cost carriers will fly to South-East Asia and the Gulf. It will be able to re-deploy aircrafts on these routes, as soon as the route rationalisation on domestic routes is complete.
