Smt. Rajashreeji Birla, Chairperson of Habitat's IndiaBUILDS Advisory Committee hosted a function facilitating Habitat for Humanity India. The event was marked with the shining star presence of John Abraham who is the brand ambassador for the IndiaBUILDS. Together they have managed to pool funds enough to assist Habitat for Humanity with building over 5000 homes in last one year. Mr. Asit Koticha Chairman of ASK Financials - a leading financial services and portfolio management firm presented Rs.36.25 lakhs to Mr. Peter Selvarajan, CEO of Habitat for Humanity India. Other imminent presence was of Mr. Sanjay Nayar - CEO of Citigroup and prominent supporters of Habitat India - Mr. Gul Kripalani of Pijikay , Mr. Anil Singhvi of Ican , Citibank and Aditya Birla Group . While showing his support to the cause, Mr. Asit Koticha Chairman of ASK said, "the ASK-Habitat partnership is inspired by the Join John's Brigade campaign of Habitat led by his my favourite film star Mr. John Abraham". Mr. Peter Selvarajan, CEO of Habitat for Humanity India, who shared the details of the staggering success of Habitat, "Habitat India has built & repaired 19000 homes from inception; and in the last financial year have built more than 5000 homes", he said. Being a devout supporter of the cause which Habitat India stands for, Ms Rajashree Birla said enthusiastically, "We have already committed Rs.1 Crore to Habitat India during this financial year which will help build 1400 homes for the poor".
Talking about his campaign, John Abraham urged people to come forward and present their support towards building home for the destitute. "Come join my brigade to build decent homes for the poor. Come on India, let's show we care!" - was his call to all those present. Amongst other personalities who graced the occasion was Mr Anil Singhvi of Ican, Citibank. The project between HABITAT for Humanity and ASK FINANCIALS in Karjat will also include a school and a primary health care centre, and is planned to be finished by March 2008. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to eradicating poverty housing. HFHI has built more than 240,000 houses in 100 countries globally, and over 1.2 million people are living in Habitat homes they helped build and which they own through low-cost, no-profit mortgages. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INDIA is one of Habitat's largest country programs. There are Habitat Centers in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai and satellite centers in the south and east. New partnerships with corporate supporters and NGO partners extend Habitat's presence to the whole of India.
