Jet Airways today relaxed norms in respect of carrying liquids, duty free products and hand-luggage for passengers travelling out of the United Kingdom following the relaxation of curbs imposed by Department for Transport (DFT), in wake of recent threat perceptions. These new regulation are effective today, i.e. Monday, 6th November, 2006.
Primarily, the new regulations comprise of a relaxation of the 3-month old-ban on carrying any liquids aboard flights originating from the United Kingdom. The new regulations will now allow passengers to carry liquids in small quantities, but only within separate containers each of which with a capacity not greater than 100ml in size. These containers must be brought to the airport in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which itself must not exceed 1 litre in capacity (approximately 20cms x 20cms). Liquids that can not be placed inside the re-sealable bag must be packed into the hold luggage and checked in.
The new security procedures have also provided for passengers to take on board duty free liquid items of any size that are purchased after the security check in the departure lounge. The regulations, however, state that all duty free purchases will need to be carried in a special sealed bag, which should not be opened until the passengers have reached their final destination. The regulations, also state that passengers would need to retain their proof of purchase throughout the journey, as they might be called upon to show the same at all transfer points.
