Japan condemns violence at Maruti's Manesar plant

Japan today condemned the violence at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant that claimed the life of a senior company official and said it hoped that Haryana government would bring to book the culprits.

government would bring to book the culprits.


"We strongly hope that the State of Haryana would administer, according to law, prompt and just punishment to the perpetrators and effectively enforce law and order so that such incidents would not be repeated," the Embassy of Japan said in a statement.


Deploring the "loss of one life and scores of injuries caused by the sabotage perpetrated by a group of workers", the statement further said it "condemns the violence and vandalism".


"We expect that the Manesar plant will resume its operations and normalcy will be recovered at the earliest," it added. Maruti Suzuki's General Manager HR at the Manesar plant, Awanish Kumar Dev was burnt to death in yesterday's violence that broke out over suspension of a worker, who had allegedly beaten up a supervisor.


Following the incident, the Manesar plant has been shut down. The plant has an annual capacity of 5.5 lakh units and rolls out Swift, Dzire, SX4 and A-Star models.
