Carmaker Jaguar is stopping production at its Halewood plant in Liverpool for a week during October-end because of the gloomy economic outlook, a spokesman said on Thursday. The Halewood plant manufactures Freelander and X-Type models of vehicle.

"We're taking prudent action to continue matching production to demand," the spokesman said, adding that staff at the plant would continue to go to work and get paid.

India's Tata Motors agreed to buy Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Co for USD2.3 billion in March.

The spokesman said the move at Halewood followed similar steps at acquired plants in Castle Bromwich and Solihull, both in central England.
