Irdeto , the proven expert in content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile, announced today that it has acquired IDway SAS , a leading software company providing open software solutions for digital TV consumer devices based in Paris, France. No financial details of the transaction were disclosed.

This collaboration builds on an existing relationship between Irdeto and IDway which began in 2006. By combining IDway's state-of-the-art and standard middleware solutions with Irdeto's renowned conditional access (CA) solutions, Irdeto will be able to provide a wider range of integrated solutions to operators and set top box (STB) manufacturers. A closer synchronization of the two companies' product roadmaps will also accelerate the product solution availability and time to market for STB manufacturers as well as digital TV operators. The IDway-J middleware solution is fully compliant to DVB standards and includes a customizable user interface with Western and Asian languages support and optional PVR extensions. These features reduce the time required to deliver a high quality set top box providing interactive services. In line with the adoption of the DVB-MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) standard, IDway has also successfully developed IDway-MHP, which is already licensed to several world-class consumer electronics manufacturers.

"With the acquisition of IDway, Irdeto is now able to offer the combination of middleware and conditional access (CA), stated Graham Kill, CEO of Irdeto. "This expanded relationship with IDway will help it grow to the next level and for Irdeto to offer middleware solutions to segments of the market that complement those from Irdeto's long-established middleware partners, such as OpenTV."

"Joining Irdeto will enable IDway to develop and to rapidly deploy advanced interactive TV middleware solutions, especially in markets where services are offered at considerably lower Average Revenues per User (ARPUs).," said Gérard Pazuelo, COO of IDway. "IDway will operate on a basis to ensure that its existing and future partners' interests are respected and offer the best integrated middleware solutions to the rapidly growing emerging digital TV markets."
