IOL Broadband has signed a VOIP Pact with MTNL. How will this benefit the company's growth plans? AS Oberai , Director of IOL Broadband  feels that the scope for growth for the IPTV segment is immense. He believes that it is the technology of the future. The company has rolled out in 4-5 cities and in every city, they are getting excellent response, he said.

 

Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview with AS Oberai:

 

Q: If you could just put it clearly in terms of numbers, IPTV - because we are now looking at the governing mulling on FDI or opening in this segment. How much is the potential of growth in this sector and what kind of subscriber growth numbers can one look at a business entering into this segment?

 

A: The sky is the limit for the growth. It is a totally new technology, let me put it as a preamble that IPTV technology will revolutionize things, the way we interact with the IT and media sector. Everybody knows that this is the technology of the future. Besides television, just see in TV, IPTV would enable a person under one single roof from a same platform a whole lot of other value added services.

 

Q: Across five metros you had as of now subscriber base of 10,000. Doesn't sound like a whole lot, can you give us an idea of what kind of increase in subscriber additions you hope to be able to make and what is it that sort of constraining it yet?

 

A: Like I said earlier, there was this problem of getting the regulations in place and this regulation coming in place is a very good; issues pertaining to regulation etc have been addressed.

 

Q: What kind of growth in subscriber numbers do you expect?

 

A: Like I said there can be exponential growth, we have rolled out in 4-5 cities and in every city, we are getting excellent response.
