IT major Infosys Technologies has said the job scenario in India is getting better, reports CNBC-TV18 quoting NewsWire18. This comes close on the heels of other reports that hiring, especially in the IT sector (a sector badly hit by the 2008-09 global meltdown), is on a pick-up. Earlier, CEOs of various IT companies have been quoted as saying hiring is set to improve through the course of 2010.

The global financial crisis took a heavy toll on the health of Indian IT companies, many of which depended mostly on revenues from financial sector companies in the West. Add to that, the multi-billion-dollar Satyam scam in January 2009, in which the company's founder admitted to inflating the company's cash (and which at one point loomed large over the future of the company's 50,000 staff) and Indian IT employees' cup of woes threatened to spill over.

With the global economy seemingly showing signs of picking up, Infosys has said its initial target of hiring about 20,000 employees in fiscal year 2010-11 "seems reasonable".

"We see the Indian IT industry hiring about 2,50,000-3,00,000 employees in FY11," Infosys said.

Most companies hiring

The news would come as a delight to current and prospective IT employees. Among other companies, Satyam (now Mahindra Satyam, after it was taken over in a government-approved auction) is now back to hiring as well, and has also recalled many of its benched employees. Other IT biggies like TCS and Wipro have also selectively begun hiring.
