India's PC market up 2.5% on year in Q2: Gartner

India's personal computer market grew 2.5% on year to 2.5 million units in April-June, bogged down by rising interest rates and stubborn inflation, but Dell Inc retained its top position in terms of market share, researcher Gartner said.

The market had grown at 6.2% in Jan-March, mostly driven by enterprise and small and midsize business buying.

"With the recent hike in commodity pricing such as fuel and food items, the cause of concern continues to exist in the Indian market," Vishal Tripathi, principal research analyst at Gartner, said in a statement.

"However, we expect the market to perform far better in the coming quarter to due the festive season which is considered as auspicious for buying," Tripathi said.

In terms of market share, Taiwan's Acer Inc moved to the No 2 position, pushing Hewlett-Packard Co to the third spot, the research showed.

Local player HCL Infosystems , with a market share of 6.6%, stood at the fifth spot, Gartner said.
