Indian IT companies are looking at Japan as a potential market to outsource deals.
It's a market that India's IT industry has yet to tap. But that's beginning to happen. HCL technologies struck a deal USD 30 million deal with Konica Minolta. It's the largest joint venture between an Indian and Japanese firm in the past three years. And Satyam Computers is auto giant Nissan's only IT service provider.
Last year India exported IT services worth USD 350 million to Japan. That's just 1.5 percent of its IT exports. Industry watchers say the Japanese software market is worth about USD 100 billion. And that's a lot of incentive for collaboration
"Many of the Japanese companies are looking much more closely at globalization and they do believe that Indian companies do significantly contribute to their globalization initiative and the need to work with India has never been higher before" says Suresh Sundaram, VP - Marketing, HCL Technologies.
Still, it will take time for Indian firms to get a foothold in Japan. That's because of Japan's high standards and few Indians are fluent in Japanese.
