After establishing themselves as world leaders in the BPO space, Indian companies are now spreading their wings to neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Sri Lanka. CNBC-TV18 reports how South Asia may soon emerge as the world's leading outsourcing destination. The Indian subcontinent may soon emerge as one of the world's leading outsourcing destinations with India leading the way. While in most neighbouring countries, the BPO sector is still at a nascent stage, industry leaders believe India has a lot to offer in terms of expertise and have already taken steps in this direction. India has already signed MOUs with Sri Lanka and Pakistan to develop the outsourcing sector.
Currently Mindtree Consulting is working with Karachi-based Systems Innovations Limited. But due to political barriers, it will take time to have more exchanges with Pakistan.
Sri Lanka meanwhile is fast emerging as a preferred destination for many companies. The past three years have seen companies like WNS, Officetiger, HDPL setting up base in Sri Lanka. International companies of Sri Lankan origin like Virtusa and John Keells have set up base in India. Indian companies are helping in the training space. Manju Haththotuwa, CEO, ICT Agency, Sri Lanka says, "We are concentrating on developing or leveraging on India's success with business continuity and disaster recovery. And that's a nice way for the two countries to compliment each other and strengthen each other's case to any potential clients." Two information and communication technology-working groups are meeting in Sri Lanka next month to decide the future course of action for the development of the BPO sector in Sri Lanka.
