Sales of personal computers in India rose 26% in the December quarter, from a year ago, indicating a strengthening recovery, IT research firm IDC said on Friday. Desktop computer sales rose 14.6% over last year to 1.27 million units and notebook PC sales rose by more than half to 693,911 units in the quarter, taking the total to 1.97 million units in the December quarter. "With multiple factors like economic revival, technological developments, increasing relevance for the users and right price points all converging, we are at the beginning of yet another growth curve in the domestic PC market," IDC India's country manager Kapil Dev Singh said in a note. However, the seasonality factor saw overall PC sales fall 10.35% on quarter, IDC added. Dell displaced market leader Hewlett-Packard (HP) to become India's top seller of notebook PCs, helping it erode the market share of top-ranked HP and third-place Acer in the overall PC market. HP held on to its top slot in the overall PC market with a market share of 16.2%, followed by Dell and Acer at 13.6% and 10.4% share respectively.
