IBM celebrated the IBM Day at IIT Kharagpur on the 28 April, Saturday, 2007.
The focus for the IBM day was to build awareness on VLSI/Architecture, Autonomic Computing, Services Oriented Architecture and Databases/Network Security. The focus of the event was also on creating interest among engineering students at IIT Kharagpur on emerging opportunities for Research in industry.
Key sessions at IBM Day were addressed by Dr. C Mohan, IBM Fellow and IBM India Chief Scientist, David Harame, IBM Fellow and Sudhir Dhawan, DE, STG, IBM, with other representatives from IBM and IIT Kharagpur. The highlight of the day was also a special demo on the functioning of Play Station 3.
Commenting on the event Dr. C Mohan, IBM Fellow and IBM India Chief Scientist, said “Education is the most important tool through which we can change the landscape around us and it’s critical for us to be a part of this. IBM’s University Relations supports research, curriculum innovation, and educational assistance in focus areas, which are fundamental to innovation in the 21st Century and strategic to IBM's core business”
Prof. Indranil Sengupta, HOD, CSE IIT Kharagpur said "We are entering an exciting era of chip design in India. IIT Kharagpur is among the leading institutes in the country in the area of VLSI, electronic design and verification of computer chips. We look forward to joint collaboration with IBM to take these activities to the next level of international presence."
Through its Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) Program, IBM supports Ph.D fellowships, faculty sabbaticals and forges lasting technical collaboration with eminent Professors from top institutes of the country.
