The battle for Hutch has finally had a happy ending. Vodafone gets the market it desperately wanted, the Ruias keep their stake, protect their future and even get an additional USD 400 million to keep the peace.

CNBC-TV18 reports on what could be the logic behind the settlement fee that Hutch has given to Essar.

HTIL will pay USD 373.5 million to Essar Group when the deal closes. It will pay an  additional USD 41.5 million, two years later. Also,  Ravi Ruia is to be appointed as the Chairman of Vodafone Essar.

Essar may now refrain from jeopardising the deal. Essar and Hutch had been fighting over issues like the RoFR.

The two companies are expected to announce details of shareholders agreement today
