Hot wheels for all at 2008 auto-expo
The 9th Delhi Auto Expo kicks off on Jan 9. Ratan Tata's "people car" will make it to the biggest event in the auto calendar, reports CNBC-TV18. 41 vehicle manufacturers, with over 1,900 auto components, accessory makers will show off their wares. Global makers like Suzuki, Honda and Volkswagen will also unveil their compact cars.
The stage is set for the 9th Delhi Auto Expo that kicks off on January 9. A slew of launches including Ratan Tata's "people car" promise to make it the biggest event in the auto calendar, reports CNBC-TV18's Swati Khandelwal.
Get ready for India's biggest automobile carnival in the New Year. With the Tata 's unvileing their "people's car" at the Expo, the mobility for all theme this year, couldn't have been more apt. As many as 41 vehicle manufacturers with over 1,900 auto components, accessory makers will show off their wares.
While Toyota and Ford are staying, other global makers like Suzuki, Honda and Volkswagen will unveil their compact cars. Suzuki will put out the Splash, expected to hit Indian roads in 2008. Volkswagon's new mini car, Up! will also get an audience, while Honda will showcase the compact 'Jazz' concept
But the focus will be on Ratan Tata's pride and joy - the "Rs 1 lakh car". While the car will be unveiled at the Expo, the commercial launch is only around the middle of 2008. Tata Motors will also display a range of new passenger vehicles, as well as buses made under its joint venture with Brazil's Marcopolo.
Fiat will display the 'Grande Punto' and its sedan, the 'Linea'.
The event this time is expected to be one of the biggest to date, both in terms of area and partcipation and expects over one million visitors. Skoda board members, the senior Volkswagen management team, top Fiat and Yamaha executives are also expected to come.
