![]() Hero Honda leads the pack in auto nos, TVS lagsPublished on Mon, Oct 01, 2007 at 17:28 | Source : Moneycontrol.com Updated at Mon, Oct 01, 2007 at 21:17
So far the numbers have been in line with expectations. Of course, September is a strong month for auto manufacturers with them ramping up and gearing for the festivals season. But these numbers have to be viewed in the light of two important events. The 'shraad' period from September 27, which may have some kind of a dampening effect. Also the base is getting larger for the auto manufacturers. So YoY growth is getting difficult as we move along, but MoM numbers have come out pretty strong. From the two-wheeler pack, Hero Honda is clearly leading with almost 3.14 lakh vehicle sales in the last month versus three lakh YoY. The management is expecting much stronger growth and a very good festival season ahead. Moving on to Bajaj , on a YoY basis, there has been a decline of 25% in bike sales on the back of a very large base. They've a total sales of two lakh in the last month. XCD saw about 18,000 in sales, the company has received very good response for the XCD and they have already received advance bookings, which has covered their target for October, about 50,000 vehicles. For TVS , the disappointment continues. Almost a 50% drop in bike volumes YoY. However, the management does seem optimistic and with new launches slated, they are expecting much better numbers. Maruti numbers have been in line with expectations. The growth has been around 13% YoY. But in the last few months, they've seen a growth of 25-26%. So it has been muted in that sense. But this growth comes on the back of a very large base for Maruti, secondly 'shraad' impacting Maruti more than most of the other manufacturers. There also has been some kind of a bottleneck on one of their welding shops. But all in all, numbers have been in line with expectations.
