Demonstrating its technology leadership once again, HCL Infosytems Ltd, India's premier ICT enabler and system integration company today unveiled its new Quad-Socket HCL High-End Enterprise server IGL 4700 FC based on Intel's latest 7300 series of Quad core Xeon MP processors. The new server packs extreme performance in a dense package, with 16 computing cores in a mere 7-inch (4U) form factor that promises significantly higher performance.

Five years ago, a similar performance would have been possible only in a 24U rack with eight dual-socket 2U rack servers, consuming at least 350W of power per server, summing to 2800W. The new server has power requirement of under 1600W in a mere 7-inch (4U) form factor. The ability to run simultaneous processes with more cores and multi-threading capabilities supported by virtualization technology provides a solid foundation for server consolidation and enterprise IT infrastructures.

HCL IGL 4700FC offers mainframe-class reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) along with advance features such as system memory mirroring and sparing, hot-plug PCI Express* (PCIe) capabilities, hot-swap SATA/SAS hard drives, and redundant hot-swap power supplies and fans. This quad-socket server can handle a virtualized application environment with up to 16 virtual Machines, allowing it to single-handedly cater to all infrastructure requirements of emerging businesses. Designed also to fit easily into the consolidated, dense and easily manageable datacenter environments, HCL IGL 4700FC promises extreme dependability and a complete peace of mind to IT managers. Key enterprise software vendors have drafted policies supporting quad core servers.

Announcing the new server, Mr. George Paul, Executive Vice President, HCL Infosystems said, "The new HCL IGL 4700FC is designed to meet the needs of enterprises and data centers in India, who are increasingly looking for next-generation servers on Open Architecture, which offer significant performance gains along with superior manageability and reliability. The new server also carries forward HCL's proud legacy in launching advanced IT solutions that offer superior value to Indian enterprises, through a unique combination of superior technology and innovative features backed by HCL's award-winning service and support network."

Apart from delivering high performance the server is also designed to deliver to the requirement of data demanding enterprise applications like ERP, SCM, CRM, Transaction Processing, e-commerce etc. The server will be priced at Rs. 2.7 Lakh onwards.

Performance benchmarks indicate that with the 7300 Series of Quad Core Xeon MP CPUs, the server system performs up to 2.12 times more than last generation 7100 series of processors.

In comparison, the Dual Core 7000 Series processor based servers, the new server delivers 3 times better performance and support approximately 2.5 times more SAP users.
