The Delhi High Court has dismissed the case filed by Motorola against BSNL for giving GSM order to ITI-Alcatel.

Commenting on this, SD Saxena, Director of Finance, has said, they will be placing orders very soon. Order of 18 million lines will be placed with ITI within two weeks time.

Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview with SD Saxena:

Q: Could you walk us through, where things stand right now, as to by when you will actually go ahead and award all of these lines and specifically how the allocation will be made in regards to Alcatel-ITI and some of the other bidders that had originally bid?

A: This is the case which has been withdrawn now by the applicant. It has not been a dismissal of the case but perhaps it has been withdrawn by Motorola. We welcome this move and we believe that we will be placing orders very quickly because there is a lot of demand and our customers are demanding connectivity.

Q: Could you give us a timeframe on that and could you confirm that, of those 63 million lines, 18 million did go to ITI-Alcatel consortium,if you will?

A: Yes, that has already been earmarked. In addition, the successor bidders will get the rest of the order.

Q: Are you sure it was withdrawn by the litigants?

A: Yes, by Motorola.

Q: You said that very soon you will be issuing the orders - how soon would 'very soon' be?

A: It maybe two weeks.

Q: Can you give us any other idea of any other bids that is on the anvil for BSNL?

A: No, this was the major one. We have been trying to release it as early as possible. We thank Motorola for having withdrawn this case, which in the first place was not necessary, and perhaps it is because of the communication gap and their perception.

Q: Ericsson had quoted a price of about USD 107 per line, and Nokia about USD 177 per line - how will the allocation for the rest of the lines be made, in regards to these two parties or other parties?

A: The team has to come back to us with all the details, but we very much welcome and thank Motorola for having withdrawn this case.

Q: So there was no proportion as such that you set aside for these two players?

A: We have a relationship with them, they have been our partners and and I, very much, thank them for this.
