Govt to open up legal services sector

The government may finally be paying attention to calls for opening up the legal services sector in the country. In an exclusive chat with CNBC-TV18 in London, Commerce Minister Kamal Nath said that discussions in this regard were on, but it would take a while to implement.

Commerce Minister, Kamal Nath said, "Where legal services are concerned on both sides, a team of legal experts are working at it to converge. There has to be a level playing field for both."

When asked about the opening of legal services, he said, "We have to provide a level playing field for both. That for us means doing many things back home. It means amending our partnership act and both legal fraternities agreeing to this. It is not just for governments to agree. We want to make sure that the legal fraternity also sees value in it from both sides."
