Govt to borrow Rs 1.23 lakh cr in Oct-Mar programme

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor KC Chakrabarty said the government would borrow Rs 1.23 lakh crore (excluding desequester) and would desequester Rs 5,000 crore market stabilisation scheme (MSS) bonds in October-March. He further said, the government would borrow Rs 10,000 crore per week initially in October-March. The government would end FY10 borrowing by February 1st week, Chakrabarty said.

"We will conduct open market options (OMO) as and when needed," the Deputy Governor said. According to him, there was no decision yet on raising banks' hold-to-maturity (HTM).

"We will ensure government borrowing is non-disruptive and adequate funds for corporate borrowers," Chakrabarty said.
