The government has kick started the process of appointing a new chairperson to head the telecom regulatory authority of India - TRAI - as incumbent Dr JS Sarma's three-year term at the helm of the body comes to an end this may.
The search and selection panel will be chaired by India's senior most civil servant cabinet secretary Ajit Kumar Seth and includes the Prime Minister's principal secretary Pulok Chaterji, the secretaries of the department of telecom and department of personnel along with noted technocrat Sam Pitroda.
Sources have told CNBC-TV18 that the first meeting of the panel is scheduled to take place on Tuesday and finalise the modalities for appointing a new head to the country's telecom regulator.
