Reports say that competitor Google is offering to help Yahoo! keep Microsoft at bay.

Yahoo extended gains after Microsoft offered to buyout Yahoo! for USD 44.6 billion.

Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer , said, "From a regulatory perspective, I would like to say that a combination of Yahoo! and Microsoft will make a competitive market place by establishing a strong number two competitor and any alternative scenario does not seem to enhance competition. That is the message we will communicate to the regulators."
