Godrej and Boyce is planning to double its frost-free refrigerator manufacturing capacity by augmenting its plant in Shirwal near Pune with an investment of around Rs 100 crore.
"We already have refrigerator manufacturing capacity near Pune. With the growth in consumerism, we are planning to double our existing frost-free capacity from 3.5 lakh units to seven lakh units," said Mr George Menezes, Chief Operating Officer, Appliance Division, Godrej & Boyce, on Tuesday.
The investment will be made through internal accrual and the new unit at the company's existing set up at Shirwal will be operational in the next one year.
Another facility
Apart from refrigerators, the Shirwal facility manufactures washing machines. The company has another facility at Mohali for manufacture of DC (direct cool) refrigerators. Its current market share for refrigerators is around 20 per cent.
