General Motors has ended talks aimed at teaming with Carlos Ghosn's Renault and Nissan, reports CNBC-TV18.

This came on the back of a dispute over General Motors' demand to be compensated for taking part in an alliance.

General Motors said in a statement that the companies recognized that significant synergies might result from the tie-up.

But the parties did not agree on either the total amount of aggregate synergies or the distribution of those benefits.
