General Motors India has registered an 18% YTD (yield-to-date) growth during January-August period in 2006 as compared to the same period last year. The global auto major sold 24,027 units from January to August 2006 as against 20,322 cars in the same period in 2005 to record a growth of 18% in sales. The August 2006 sales comprise of 1706 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 312 units of Chevrolet Optra and 702 units of Chevrolet Aveo.

"Despite production, dispatches and delivery getting affected due to floods in Gujarat and many other parts of the country, GM India has been able to register YTD growth of 18 % over the same period last year. The performance has been up to our expectations keeping in mind the unprecedented flood conditions in Gujarat and Maharashtra," said Mr. P Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India. " With the growing portfolio of our Chevrolet brand of vehicles in India, we remain committed to bring value propositions for our customers. With the growing popularity of our Chevrolet brand of vehicles, we expect to see a lot of excitement with the launch other vehicles under the Chevrolet badge, "added Mr. Balendran.

In this direction, GM India has recently launched the CNG version of its premium sedan - Chevrolet Optra priced at Rs 8.10 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi). It has also announced a unique scheme entitled "Total Peace Of Mind And Protection Offer" for the Chevrolet Optra. This is the first time ever in the Indian automobile market that a manufacturer has introduced such a customer friendly initiative which offers customers a special price of Rs 7.24 lacs (Ex showroom, Delhi) for Optra as against a normal price of Rs 7.81 lacs and a triple bonanza - the most competitive price, a 3 year/ 60000kms warranty coverage plus free service/maintenance plan for 3 year/45000kms and lastly a minimum assured resale price on the vehicle.

GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation.  Besides the Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet SRV and Chevrolet Aveo at its state-of-the-art facility in Halol, Gujarat.
